Congratulations to the NICU nursery team of Bansal Global Hospital
The entire team of Bansal Global Hospital congratulates the NICU nursery team for the commendable expertise they have shown towards a very delicate case recently.

A new born baby was admitted into the hospital for difficulty of breathing. The cause was identified to be arising out of a condition where the baby starts passing stools in the mother’s womb before delivery.

This means that there was fatal distress low heat beat before delivery. The baby was treated with CPAP respiratory support under continuous observation.

A huge acclaim for the successful treatment of the baby goes to our in-house paediatrician, Dr. Neha Bansal, who very patiently and diligently used here knowledge and experience in its best possible form.

It’s a matter of proud for the hospital and a step towards the right direction. Bansal Global Hospital along with its team of specialist Doctors will continue to work hard in order to achieve a healthy society.

Dengue And Pregnancy
Dengue is a familiar mosquito borne disease in which blood platelet count gets drastically low and can prove to be fatal for the patient. Very few people are aware that the effects of dengue are more threatening during a women’s pregnancy, especially during the early stages of pregnancy. It may take a toll on the mother’s health as well as the baby’s.
We bring to you some crucial information which you must know if you or your dear ones are going through the pregnancy phase while Dengue fever is on the rise.

Symptoms

Sometimes dengue symptoms during pregnancy are ignored as there are many physiological changes taking place in the body already and thought of to be common. But the following symptoms in excess shouldn’t be ignored:
⦁ Headache
⦁ Multiple joint pains
⦁ Rashes
⦁ Bleeding from nose and gums
⦁ Intermittent fever

Symptoms in baby

If the mother is suffering from Dengue fever at the time of birth, the baby may be still born because of low blood platelet count. Other than these, following symptoms are seen in babies born with dengue:
⦁ Low birth weight
⦁ Premature baby delivery
⦁ Fever
Special care is required for the baby and mother if these symptoms arise. Hence both of them should be closely monitored. You should constantly get the baby checked up by a neonatologist.

Treatment

Rest: Adequate rest is necessary for the mother so that her body can compensate for the stress she is going through. It might become necessary to hospitalise the patient for proper care and observation.
Medication: It is very risky to take too many medications during pregnancy as it can affect the baby as well as cause organ failures in mother. Most of the medicines are contraindicated in both dengue and pregnancy making it very complicated to treat. A specialist should be consulted to avoid any further complication. Medicines with ibuprofen and aspirin should be fully avoided.
Adequate diet: Dietary supplements are required to avoid fatigue and giddiness. Other than that, the patient should consume a lot of water to avoid dehydration. Milk and dairy products should be consumed in abundance.

Malaria : A Brief Introduction – Bansal Global Hospital

Malaria is a fatal systematic disease caused by a parasite called Plasmodium which is transmitted into human blood via female Anopheles mosquito. Malaria is more common during the rainy season and is widespread in tropical regions which provide plasmodium a suitable environment for survival.

The parasite enter the human body through mosquito bite and travel to the very crucial organ, the liver, where they multiply and then come back to the blood stream and destroy red blood cells. The process further leads to a cascade of reactions and symptoms start showing.

Symptoms usually show up within 10 days to 3 weeks but sometimes malarial parasite may stay dormant and appear later in life. Symptoms are similar to the flu and can be easily confused. Therefore, a confirmatory blood test is required.

Seek immediate medical attention if you notice any of the symptoms. The treatment includes anti-malarial medicines for healthy RBC count prescribed by practitioners.

If the test for Malaria comes out to be positive, hygiene and cleanliness should be maintained around the patient and mosquitoes should be prevented around him to avoid spread of infection to healthy individuals around.

On an end note, be safe from the disease which can be deadly at times. If you are travelling to malaria prone areas consult a doctor for necessary medications and carry mosquito repellants and other necessary things to stay away from mosquitoes and the disease.

Most drugs used in treatment are active against the parasite forms in the blood (the form that causes disease) and include:

chloroquine
atovaquone-proguanil (Malarone®)
artemether-lumefantrine (Coartem®)
mefloquine (Lariam®)
